Rocha received a group of students from the CEU Cardenal Herrera University at his architecture department at the university of Porto
Two recent UCH graduates worked with him for a time through the BEPAD program
The Portuguese architect João Álvaro Rocha, who was a visiting professor in the Master in Architectural Industrialization and Prefabrication at CEU-UCH, passed away last week on September 13. Rocha closely collaborated from his department at the University of Porto with the undergraduate program in Architecture at UCH through the BEPAD scholarship program. Two UCH students did an internship under Rocha’s supervision through this program.
The students of the undergraduate program in Architecture at UCH went on a study tour to the University of Porto two years ago. There, under his personal supervision, they got to know his work, visited his office and listened to
João Álvaro Rocha attended the opening at CEU-UCH of ‘Habitar’, an exhibition that gathered the extensive and recognized work he did in housing construction. This exhibition was curated by UCH professors Alfonso Díaz, José Francisco Sánchez y Ricardo Merí. It was also displayed at the professional association of architects of the Valencian region (Colegio Territorial de Arquitectos de Valencia), with which UCH cooperates.
In the opinion of Ricardo Merí, architecture professor at UCH and director of the International Relations Office, “his knowledge in the field of architecture, which he transmitted with a very personal and enthusiastic spirit, has been of great benefit to many students. João Álvaro Rocha gave, out of generosity, two students who had recently graduated from our university the chance to do an internship in his office under the excellence scholarship program BEPAD”. Merí concludes that they will miss him, and will continue to learn from him and his professional legacy. “May he rest in peace.”
