Professors Hill and Gillam, from the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry institute, have been invited to the sessions of May 8th and May 9th in the CEU-UCH University
Dentistry students of the CEU-UCH will participate in the second International Week (iWeek) with the presence of two prestigious experts: the Professor Robert Hill and the Clinical Senior Lecturer David Gillam, coming from one of the most famous research center of the United Kingdom: the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry institute, an international leader in oral and dental sciences. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise was ranked 1st in the UK for 4 star and 3 star outputs and 2nd in the UK overall ranking, according to the Times Higher Education.
Dental Applications of Bioactive Glasses
Robert Hill is professor of Physical Sciences in Relation to Dentistry in the Institute of Dentistry at Bart’s and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The Professor Hill is the UK representative of Technical Committee 4 of the International Congress of Glass, that deals with glasses for Medical Applications and he is also the UK representative in the Technical Committee 7, that deals with Nucleation and Crystallization of Glass.
The Professor Hill is currently working on new biodegradable cements to use as degradable bone glue. That is why during the Dentistry iWeek , he will give two lectures to the CEU-UCH students concerning: “Dental Applications of Fluoride and Chloride Containing Bioactive Glasses” and “Remineralising GICs for atraumatic restorative dentistry”.
Dentine Hypersensitivity in the Dental Office
David Gillam is working as a clinical lecturer in Periodontology at the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry institute. He has a long term previous experience in industry: initially with SmithKline Beecham, as Assistant Director in Oral care, and subsequently with Block Drug Company, Incorporated, USA, as Assistant Director in Oral Care. From 2003 to 2008 he has worked with a Clinical Research Organization as Senior Clinician.
He is currently working with the Professor Robert Hill in the development of bioactive glasses for the treatment of dental conditions in particular dentine hypersensitivity. He will give two other lectures to the CEU-UCH Dentistry students concerning: “Clinical Overview of Dentine Hypersensitivity in the Dental Office” and “The impact of Dentine Hypersensitivity in your patient. Real or Imagined?”.
