He is currently participating in two new projects with funding from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Bank of Spain Research Projects in Macroeconomics, Finance and Banking.
Gonzalo Rubio Irigoyen, Professor of Economics and Finance at University CEU Cardenal Herrera in Elche, has published the article “The joint cross-sectional variation of equity returns and volatilities” in the Journal of Banking and Finance. His research, done in collaboration with Ana González-Urteaga from the Public University of Navarra, discusses the apparent segmentation that exists between market volatility and profitability and how the risk and profitability are determined according to the investor.
Currently Professor Gonzalo Rubio is participating in two research projects. The project titled “Identification and Prediction of Systemic Shocks: an Analysis of the Macroeconomic Determinants of Financial Risks and its Implications” is funded by the Bank of Spain Research Projects in Macroeconomics, Finance and Banking for the period 2016-2017. And, the project “Relations between Asset Prices and Macroeconomic Variables: Implications for Corporate Finance” receives funding from the Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness (Ref ECO2015-67035-P) for the period 2016-2018.
In addition, Professor Gonzalo Rubio has recently published the article “Teaching quality and academic research” in another journal, International Review of Economics Education. This study has been conducted in collaboration with Professor Rosa Rodríguez from Charles III University of Madrid, and the research was on the students of this institution.
Research career
Since joining CEU UCH in 2007, Professor of Economics and Finance Gonzalo Rubio Irigoyen has received as external research funding more than one million euros through the project of excellence PROMETEO and various I+D+i projects, financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. During the last years he has published research articles in prominent scientific publications in the field of economics and finance, such as Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, International Review of Economics and Finance, and Review of Finance.
During his long research career Gonzalo Rubio has been the principal researcher in more than a dozen external competitive projects, as well as other local and private ones. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley where he was a full-time professor from 1990 to 1991.
