This congress, which is held every two years, is specialized in working and assistance dogs

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University CEU Cardenal Herrera participated in the International Working Dog Conference (IWDC), which was developed in France and organized by the International Association of Working and Assistance Dogs.

The main objective of this international congress, which is celebrated every two years, is to focus more on the special necessities of dogs which help the humanity. Apart from the well-known guide dogs, the security dogs or the drug- or tracking-dogs, there are other methods of assistance which dogs can provide for people. One of them is that some dogs can detect hypoglycemia in children and another is the detection of cancer (especially melanoma).

On that occasion, the IWDC has pointed out the importance of the genetics, the training, the advanced techniques and the progress in the different training programs for the dogs and how their physical condition can be maintained in a hostile environment.

Milagros Benito, professor of the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University CEU Cardenal Herrera, was the only Spanish participant and gave a lecture at this international meeting where 44 other participants from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, the United States, France, Israel, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Sweden took part.
