From the 3rd to the 7th of February professors from any European university will be able to reflect on the evolution of the concept of homes from architectural, interior design, and home automation perspectives

CEU-UCH´s Technical School of Engineering (ESET) is preparing for the second edition of the international iWeek. Entitled “iHome, from the modern house to the future home”, architects, designers and professors from different European universities will lead sessions and workshops to reflect on the housing of the future. This reflection will be from the point of view of ESET´s three teaching fields: architecture, design and technologies, and automated software that will be installed in homes in the coming years.

Organised by ESET and his International Relations Office, the second International Week will include lectures, workshops, and presentation sessions, led by the participating European professors. It will take place from the 3rd to the 7th February 2014. These sessions all revolve around the new concept of intelligent housing, new social and spatial conditions of homes in the future, and the integration of prefabrication and industrialisation of architecture formulas.

Regarding this last aspect, European teachers participating in iWeek will get to know sustainable modular housing projects that only use SMLsystem and SMLhouse solar power. This is the work of researchers, professors, and students of ESET and they have successfully participated in the last two Solar Decatholon Europe in 2010 and 2012.

First iWeek

ESET´s first international iWeek, in January 2013, brought together architects and designers from the Netherlands, Great Britain, Portugal, Greece and Romania, to bring different cultural approaches to sustainable design on the continent. Amongst them was the prestigious Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus.

Miguel Bruns, Ph.D. from the University of Delft, who won a Fulbright scholarship at the Center for Design Research at Stanford University in north America; Nicola Crowson, an architect with major projects in the British cities of Salisbury and Winchester and a lecturer at the British ´Portsmouth School of Architecture´; Dimitra S. Nikolaou, a professor at the National Technical University of Athens; and Mihai Corneliu Driscu, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture ‘GMCantacuzino’, in Iasi (Romania) also attended the first iWeek as guests.
