Valencian Design Engineering students will represent Spain in order to choose the world’s best packaging design in this international exhibition, competing against the proposals put forward by five other universities from Canada, France, Finland, Germany and Italy

The International Packaging Exhibition “Salon International Emballage 2012”, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in Paris from 19th to 22nd November, will host for the second time in its history the exhibition “Packaging and Remarkable Alternatives”, in collaboration with the French Strate Collège. Only six universities in the world have been selected to present the best packaging designs of their respective countries in this “barometer” of international packaging design trends in order to award the best international packaging design. Valencia’s University CEU Cardenal Herrera, through its Technical School, has been selected to put forward candidates for the best Spanish packaging design in this international competition along with their own reviews of the designs.

The proposals presented by the students on the Industrial Design and Product Development Engineering degree course at CEU-UCH will be up against rival proposals from five of the best Design schools in the world: Université du Québec à Montréal from Canada; Lahti University of Applied Sciences from Finland; University of Applied Sciences and Arts from Hanover, Germany; Politecnico di Milano from Italy and Strate Collège from France who organized the competition.

Ergonomics, sustainability and simplicity

The students of these six international design schools have selected the most note-worthy packaging from their respective countries, taking into account their design and low environmental impact, their ergonomics, simplicity and practical use, the recyclability of the packaging as well as the relation with the packaging’s contents and the information about the product for the consumer.

Each school has worked on six alternatives to the original packaging designs that will be presented in the “Salon International Emballage 2012” in Paris. A jury made up of specialists in the field of packaging design will assemble at the exhibition in order to decide on the world’s best packaging design. The awards ceremony will take place on 20th November at 10:15 in the “Parc des Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte”. This international exhibition will bring together more than 1300 exhibitors and 89,000 visitors are expected to attend.

Representing University CEU Cardenal Herrera, the students Ana Linuesa, Héctor Tomás, José Montañana, Marta Lluesma, Paula Botella and Rocío Gambén, accompanied by their professor from the Technical School, Cristina Ventura, will be present their design proposals at the exhibition in Paris.
