This Cathedra, created in 2013 by CEU Cardenal Herrera University and Javea Cancer Care, in collaboration with Hospital de Dénia, has completed its first full year of activity
The areas of research for this Cathedra are focused on personalized pharmacotherapy for cancer patients in order to create a Personalized Medical Programme in Oncology
The Rector of CEU Cardenal Herrera University, Rosa Visiedo, and Terry Saville, Jackie Evans and Eileen Saville, from Javea Cancer Care, have held a meeting to assess the results of the first year of the English Cathedra of Modern Oncology Research (ECMOR), a common project carried out with the collaboration of Hospital Marina Salud de Dénia. The main purpose of this Cathedra is to develop various scientific projects in the area of Oncology and personalized pharmacotherapy. Since its creation in April 2013, Javea Cancer Care will invest 260 000 euros in different lines of investigation by the ECMOR, to be developed at the Hospital Marina Salud de Dénia, where the Cathedra is located.
During this first year of activity, CEU Cardenal Herrera University has set up provision for a Personalized Oncology and Pharmacotherapy Laboratory, the FPOlab. This laboratory, located at the Hospital Marina Salud de Dénia, is carrying out research on different areas such as pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics, as well as in pharmacokinetics. The results of these lines of investigation are aimed at the final design of a Personalized Medial Programme in Oncology.
The heads of ECMOR Cathedra are Dr. Joan Manel Gassent Blesa, oncologist at the Hospital Marina Salud de Dénia, and Ignacio Pérez Roger, Head Researcher at the Research Group on Cancer of CEU Cardenal Herrera University. Both of them coordinate the different activites organized by the Cathedra and the sanitary and research workteams of the Faculty of Health Sciences at CEU Cardenal Herrera University, in Medicine and Nursing Degrees. The Academic Secretary of the Cathedra is Dr. Miguel Peris and the Ethics Committee is presided by Dr. José Quintana.
