At the recent CV+i Health Day conference,<\/a> Dr Sauro presented his patented biomaterial for the regeneration of dental tissues and he has also been interviewed by the specialist dentistry website, Dentalia<\/a>, part of the ConSalud.es group.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Salvatore Sauro<\/a>, a lecturer in Biomaterials and Minimally Invasive Dentistry at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University (CEU UCH)<\/strong>, is one of the leading international experts in the field of research and development of new bioactive and biomimetic materials capable of regenerating dental tissues. At the recent CV+i Health Day conference, Dr Sauro presented his patented biomaterial<\/a> for the controlled release of fluoride, calcium and phosphates, which are all crucial to the remineralization of dental tissues and in the prevention of tooth decay and dental erosion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Sauro leads the Dental Biomaterials Laboratory<\/a> at CEU UCH<\/strong> and he is also a researcher and honorary lecturer at King’s College London and the University of Hong Kong. As he explained in a recent interview on the specialist dentistry website Dentalia, part of the ConSalud.es group<\/a><\/strong>, the challenges in this field of research mainly concern the improvement of the biocompatibility<\/strong> of the new materials, the optimization of the release of therapeutic ions<\/strong> and the incorporation of advanced technologies such as 3D bioprinting<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this video, Dr Sauro explains the characteristics of the biomaterial he has patented<\/strong>: in the presence of saliva or any other bodily fluid, it creates fluoropatite<\/strong>, which is much more resistant to acid attack than standard calcium phosphates, other calcium salts or conventional hydroxypatite. These characteristics can help to remineralize and strengthen hard dental tissue structures<\/strong>, such as enamel and dentine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
